BioMichelle is a peer coach and provides support to the blogging project (as well as being an avid blogger herself!) She coaches IISME fellows at a variety of peninsula companies including Agilent, FXPAL, HP, National Semiconductor, Synopsys, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, and Yahoo! In previous years, Michelle held fellowships at Applied Materials and Synopsys.
During the school year, Michelle is the computer science teacher at the Girls Middle School in Mountain View. GMS is a 6-8 girls school where computer science is mandatory all three years. The curriculum is a general introduction to the discipline and covers a variety of topics including application use, ethical use of computers, hardware, programming, and interface design.
Michelle is vice president of the board of directors of CSTA, the Computer Science Teachers Association and was previously a member of the board of iCUE, the Silicon Valley affiliate of Computer Using Educators (CUE). She participates in the K-12 Alliance of the National Center for Women in Information Technology (NCWIT). Michelle holds a BS in Biochemistry, BS in Science Education, and Masters in Information Science from Indiana University. Credentialialed in Indiana in chemistry and general science, she patiently awaits a chemistry credential from California.
